Keps Nuts

Keps nuts are hex nuts that come with a lock washer attached, so it can spin freely until it's tightened. These washers are often the external tooth type. When you're putting them on, the nut spins easily until the washer bites into the surface it's up against as you tighten it down. Now, if the surface is painted or coated, there's a chance for corrosion if the washer digs through and removes that protective layer. Keps nuts, also known as K-lock nuts or serrated flange nuts, are specialized fasteners that combine the features of a nut and a built-in washer. Typically, sizes range from about #4 to 3/8". Sizes less than 1/4" are listed as a number size (the larger the number the larger the size) while sizes that are 1/4" and larger are specified in inches, usually fractional rather than decimal.
